Frank Carter himself is not a newcomer to the music scene, having cut his teeth in the bands Gallows and Pure Love prior to his current outfit. But Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes are shaping up to be THE band to watch for the present and future.
In early 2017, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes unleashed their second album, Modern Ruin, following up their 2015 debut, Blossom. The new disc shows a band firing on all cylinders, taking Carter’s roots in hardcore punk and adding new textures sonically, as the singer explores the wide range of his vocals.
“I wanted to make a classic album, and with Modern Ruin we’ve made a record that takes you on a journey, the same way all of my favorite records did when I was younger,” explains Carter. “Records that really changed my life: Adrenaline by Deftones, Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence by Glassjaw, Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Volume 4. by Sabbath, Nevermind by Nirvana. All of these records take you on a journey, they enable a band to show us versatility and they enable the artists to put a flag in the sand and say, ‘This is who I am’. I’ve never really had a flag that truly says that in one bold statement until now, and that’s what Modern Ruin is. You can put this on and get a lot closer to understanding the whole of me from this one record.”
While the band knocked it out of the park on the new album, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes truly shine when they hit the stage. Loudwire was there when the band stole the show at the 2017 Rock on the Range festival. We went on to describe Carter as a cross between Johnny Rotten and Corey Taylor, delivering witty banter and stirring up a tsunami of energy in the crowd.
As dynamic as Frank Carter is, let’s not forget about the Rattlesnakes, a rock solid group of musicians who have the challenging task of matching Carter’s aggression. Guitarist Dean Richardson, drummer Gareth Grover and bassist Tom ‘Tank’ Barclay are up to the task, pouring every once of energy they’ve got onstage each and every gig.
Next time Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes invade your town, be sure to catch them. Otherwise, you may just miss one of the best live shows you’ll ever see.
